He won the PGA Merchandiser of the Year Award winner for public facilities at Mahoney in 1989. He has guided a golf shop that was a 14-time selection as one of Golf Digest/Golf Shop Operations' "100 Top Pro Shops." The Mahoney shop is one of only two in the nation to receive that honor so often. Cruse, a PGA member since 1977, is a 13-time Nebraska PGA Section Merchandiser of the Year, having won in 1987-89, '90, and '91-99.
Recently, Cruse left Mahoney, where he had worked for 22 years, and became part owner and director of golf at Crooked Creek, also in Lincoln. Cruse's new club, in its seventh year, features an 18-hole course plus a golf shop that is approximately 1,250 square feet.
